Experience the Holocaust with Night

How does history affect our present and the future?

Through Elie Wiesel's Night, students will form a full understanding of the Holocaust and its effects on society. Students will practice public speaking, enhance vocabulary, and produce numerous written activities in order to show understanding of the concepts such as theme. Students will evaluate Wiesel's character development and the impact the Holocaust had on many of the Jews' faith.

Technology Integration
Flash Research
  • Students will use the internet to complete research and learn additional information about the Holocaust.

Theme Collage
  • Word processor and the internet will be used to create a collage representing the theme of Night.

Schindler's List and Oprah's Interview with Elie Wiesel
  • Students will actively watch and complete comprehension questions about these two selections.

K-W-L Chart
  • Students will watch the Voki Presentation on Night and complete a K-W-L chart about the Holocaust.
Quick Write
  • Students will watch the digital movie before beginning the Night unit and participate in a free write and discussion to discuss how it made the feel and other thoughts on the Holocaust.

Review
  • The Jeopardy game will be used to review students at the end of the unit before the take the final assessment.
